St. John's Hitmen claim provincial peewee crown

ROCKY HARBOUR, N.L. — The Hitmen from St. John’s won the 2019 Marco Pee Wee AAA Provincial Championships held this past weekend in Rocky Harbour.

The provincial champs finished the round robin with three wins and two losses. In the championship game against the first place Tri Com Thunder, they won 5-4 in overtime to claim the title on Sunday afternoon.

The Hitmen will now represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the Atlantic Regional Championship being held in New Glasgow, N.S. from April 4-7, 2019.

The Western Kings were 3-1 in the round robin, but were ousted following a 6-2 semifinal loss to the Thunder.

The Thunder’s goals came from Liam Noble (3), Ewan Cleary (2) and Michael Skinner.

Ethan Janes and Carter Decker scored for the Kings.

The Kings opened the weekend with an 11-1 win over the Northern Huskies.

Carter Bromley had three goals in the win, with Ethan Janes (2), Carter Decker (2), Matthew Reid (2), and Marcus Kearsey and Ethan March getting on the board.

Luke Shea was the lone marksman for the Huskies.

An 8-2 loss to the Hitmen was next for the Kings.

Goals for the Hitmen were scored by Andy Knight (2), Elias Marner, Noah Smith, Malachy Marner, Matthew Butler, Elliott Wright and Luc Marnell.

Allie Hancock and Carter Bromley scored in the loss.

The Kings followed that up with a 4-3 win over the Tripen Ice, where Carter Bromley, Carter Decker, Marcus Kearsey and Anthony Molloy provided the offence.

Jessica Mercer, Jared Rideout and Carter Adams scored for the opposition.

The round robin concluded for the Kings with a 5-2 win over the Central IcePak.

Matthew Reid (2), Carter Bromley, Markus Spingle, and Ethan Janes dented the mesh for the victors.

Leo Adams and Carter Lambert got on the board in the loss.
