DEER LAKE, N.L. — About halfway through the second period of Game 7, the Dennis GM Western Kings were staring at a 3-0 deficit and coach Mark Robinson called a timeout.
They scored immediately off the ensuing faceoff and the comeback was on, capped by two goals by Drew Langdon in the third to seal the 4-3 win over the Tri Pen Osprey Saturday night at the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex.
Mason Campbell and Jesse Hickey supplied the other markers for the Kings in the championship-clinching win.
Luke Akerman, Mark Rumsey and Liam Best did the damage for the Osprey.
Lucas Park earned the win in net over Riley Petten.
The first goal didn’t go on the board until 1:22 remaining in the first period when Akerman struck shorthanded from Reilly Mayne.
Rumsey made it 2-0 at 15:25 of the second, from Brady Oates, before Best put his side up by three at 11:43 with Rumsey drawing the assist.
Campbell scored the Kings first goal after the timeout, at 11:41, from Langdon.
Then Hickey scored at 9:06, with Will Keating picking up the assist, to make it 3-2.
Langdon got his first of the night to tie the game at 13:25 of the third, from Jonathan Park, before striking again immediately with an unassisted goal at 13:18 that stood up as the winner.
The Kings earned the right to play Game 7 after winning Game 6 Friday night 4-1.
Langdon, Nathan King, Jack O’Neill and Jeff Walsh were the goalscorers in that win.
Tyler Dohey was the lone marksman for the Osprey.
The Kings will now represent the province at the 2019 Atlantic Major Midget Hockey Championsbhip in Charlottetown, P.E.I. from April 4-7.
