In a tough, snowy conditions there were three playoff games scheduled at Wellington Street Sports Complex over the weekend in the Corner Brook Miller Lite Touch Football League.
One quarterfinal game didn't get played, however, as the Atlantic Industrial Projects Gophers beat the Boston Pizza Knights 1-0 by default.
In the second quarterfinal game slated for Saturday, it was the Pirates edging out the Broncos 7-6.
In a game that was played in heavy snow, Greg Whelan was able throw one touchdown pass to Phil Oake and a one-point convert to Geoff Wareham for the Pirates.
Ryan Barry managed one touchdown pass to Ryan Park for the Broncos, but they were unable to convert the extra point.
Defensively it was Birender Wadwa and Scott Wayson both with two sacks and Jeff Hull adding an interception for the Pirates.
The defense of the Broncos was led by Josh Inniss with a sack and an interception and Chris Dobbin adding a second sack.
With these results the Gophers and the Pirates advanced to the semifinals on Sunday.
In the first game on Sunday, top seed Marine Lounge took on the Pirates.
In even tougher conditions, the Mariners pulled out a 12-0 win with Harry Patterson leading the way.
He ran one touchdown in and was able to keep the ball moving to keep the Marine offence on the field.
The other touchdown for the Mariners was scored on a punt return by Steve Perry.
Evan Brake had two sacks for Marine and Paul Prosper added an interception on defense.
The Pirates didn’t have much to show on offense, but defensively they were led again by Birender Wadwa and Scott Wayson, both with two sacks each for the second game in a row.
In the second semifinal game, it was the Gophers over the Winmar Raiders 24-1.
Steven Hynes was a force for the Gophers, throwing for four touchdowns and adding two interceptions on defense.
Touchdown receivers were Matt Hancock with two and Rob Myrden and Anderson Traverse with one each.
Hancock added two interceptions on defense, with Greg Myrden with the fifth interception for the Gophers.
For the Raiders, Pat Fewer had the lone point on a rouge.
Matt Roche threw five interceptions in the losing cause.
Brandon Pardy led the way on defense two sacks and Mike Macphee added two interceptions.
The final, next Saturday at 6 p.m. under the lights, will see Marine Lounge taking on the Gophers.
