Brewer was 1-for-3 overall, with his booming shot sending he and Matt Prosper across the plate, as the Monarchs beat the Veitch’s Ultramar Hawks 2-1 at Jubilee Field.

Fred Prosper drove in Chris Gaudon for the Hawks’ lone run. Prosper was 1-for-4, while Cory Lockyer was 2-for-3 and Fred Cutler went 2-for-2.

Matt Colbourne pitched the seven-inning win, allowing one run on seven hits. He struck out five and walked two.

Frank Humber took the loss despite a solid seven-inning outing that saw him give up the two runs on just four hits, with four strikeouts and no walks.

Game 2 of the final goes 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jubilee Field.
