Newfoundland’s Katarina Roxon swam to a silver medal with a record-setting performance, then added a bronze medal as part of Canada's 4x100 freestyle team on Sunday, the final day of the 2019 world para swimming championships in London England.
Competing in the final of the women’s 100-metre SB8 breaststroke at the London Aquatics Centre, the 26-year-old from Kippens broke her own Canadian record and set a new Americas with a time of one minute and 21.96 seconds.
Her finishing time in the final was about two-and-a-half seconds faster than what she had posted in the morning qualifying heat.
Earlier in the week, Roxon had finished 10th overall in the 100m freestyle and seventh in the 200m individual medley.
These world championships were a qualifying meet for the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
Roxon won a gold medal in the 100m breaststroke at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio.
