Placentia’s Peter Hynes won a bronze medal at the 2019 Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi over the weekend.

Hynes’s podium finish, one of 19 for Canada on Saturday, came in the M01 mini javelin event of the Games’ track and field competition. The 15-year-old was the youngest competitor in his division.

A Special Olympics athlete for three years, Hynes has won medals at provincial and national events, but these are his first World Games. Besides athletics, he competes in basketball, bocce, soccer and swimming.

Hynes has a chance at another medal Monday as he runs in the 100-metre dash.
