Bo Levi Mitchell is getting another week to recover from his torn pectoral muscle.
After a week of speculation – but very little participation in practice – about the Calgary Stampeders quarterback’s availability for Saturday night’s game against the Montreal Alouettes, the team did not include Mitchell on their active roster for the game.
Instead, Nick Arbuckle will get his seventh-straight start for the defending Grey Cup champions.
Mitchell has not played since Week 3 against the B.C. Lions, when he hurt his pectoral muscle late in the game and Arbuckle came in to finish the game, leading the Stamps to a late comeback victory.
With a bye week coming up right after Saturday’s game, Mitchell will now have significantly more time to recover. Because they Stamps play the Edmonton Eskimos in the Labour Day Classic next, he won’t have to be rushed into game action early.
The Stampeders will also be without wide receiver Markeith Ambles against the Alouettes, as he is out with a twisted ankle. Rookie Josh Huff will start in his place.
