The Elwood High Lakers won the 3A Boys Basketball Western Qualifier in two games straight over the Stephenville High Spartans in Deer Lake on Saturday.

In Game 1, the Lakers defeated the Spartans 81-36.

Noah Burden scored 21 and Kyle Pinksen 23 for the Lakers.

Philip Smith had 15 for the Spartans.

In Game 2, an Elwood 89-49 victory, Burden had 24, Pinksen 21, and Ian Colbourne scored 17 for the Lakers.

David Alexander had 24 for Stephenville.

Burden of the Lakers was tournament MVP, while Bradley Pinksen of the Spartans was voted Most Sportsmanlike.

Elwood now advances to the 3A Boys Provincial Basketball Championships hosted by Stephenville on March 22-24.
