Gators down Rangers to take Corner Brook women's softball title in three straight games

Katie Evans put up big numbers at the plate on Thursday to help Whelan’s Gate defeat the KSAB Curling Rangers 16-15 to claim the Corner Brook Molson Ladies Fastpitch Softball League championship in three straight games.

The Rangers beat the Gators in five games to claim last year’s title.

Evans went 2-for-3, with two walks, collecting four RBIs and three runs scored in the win. Danielle Hurley also rang up four RBIs in a 3-for-5 outing, scoring once.

Melanie Powell scored twice and recorded an RBI while going 3-for-4, with Mark Park crossing the plate two times in a 3-for-3 effort.

Kristen Bromley went 4-for-4 in the loss, with a run scored. Lori Patey also scored with a 3-for-5 stat line. Kim Jordan and Moya Roberts were both 2-for-4 with two runs scored each.

Coolene Brake earned the pitching win over Donna Clarke.

Brake struck out seven batters over as many innings, with 17 hits allowed and five walks.

Clarke also gave up 17 hits in a seven-inning performance, walking seven batters and striking out one.
