Gators edge Rangers in Corner Brook women's softball league action

Whelan’s Gate put up nine runs in the final two innings to steal a 13-10 triumph out from under the collective noses of the Curling Rangers Tuesday night in action from the Corner Brook Molson Ladies Fastpitch Softball League at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field.

Gillian Hedderson and Cassaundra Park were both 4-for-5 at the dish in the win, Hedderson driving in three runs and scoring another and Park scoring twice and stealing a pair of bases. Faith Lidstone scored twice in a 3-for-4 effort, while Kathy Lukeman racked up four RBIs and three runs in a 3-for-5 night.

Megan Payne did all she could in defeat, putting up a 4-for-4 stat line with two runs scored and a walk. Karli Gale and Danielle Leguer were both 2-for-2, each scoring a run, with Gale adding an RBI.

Danielle Hurley was the winning pitcher, giving up 15 hits over seven innings. She walked seven and struck out six.

Donna Clarke suffered the defeat in a seven-inning outing that saw her giving up 21 runs, while striking out nine.

In Monday night action, the West Side Monarchs beat the Rapid Power Sports Bees 16-9.
