Gold medals for Eastside, Sacred Heart at RNCA Grade 6 basketball tournament

CORNER BROOK, N.L. — Eastside Elementary hosted the annual RNCA Grade 6 basketball tournament this past week, which included five girls and five boys teams from around Corner Brook.  The Sacred Heart boys won the tournament with a dominating 60-18 win over Immaculate Heart of Mary, while Eastside girls defeated J.J. Curling with a score of 29-8.

Matthew Eddison led the charge for Sacred Heart with 19 points, while Gabe Rowsell was the top scorer for Immaculate Heart with eight points.

On the girls side, Morgan Crewe led the charge with 12 points for the win, while Olivia Stuckless was top scorer for J.J. Curling with four points. 

The Sacred Heart boys advanced to the championship game by defeating J.J. Curling by a score of 49-21 with Matthew Eddison as top scorer with 16 points, and Taylor Gabriel scoring a high of six points for the losing side.

In the second boys semis, Immaculate Heart defeated Eastside Elementary in overtime with a score of 40-39 to advance. Carter Bromley was top scorer with 34 points, while top scorers for Eastside were Logan Clarke and Nick LaFosse with 10 points each.

On the girls side, J.J. Curling advanced to the championship game by defeating Immaculate Heart with an overtime win of 28-26, with Meredith Dawe scoring 10 points and Leah Lainey scoring 12 points for Immaculate Heart.

Eastside Elementary advanced by defeating C.C. Loughlin with a score of 35-10 in the second semi final game.  Rebecca Flynn was top scorer with eight points for Eastside, while Georgia Wiseman had six points for the losing side.
