Humber Valley speed skaters claim share of silverware at Atlantic championships

The Motty sisters shared the spotlight with golden performances at the 2016 Atlantic Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Prince Edward Island over the weekend.

Brook Motty, in her speed skating debut, claimed top honours in Division 10, while  second-year skater Julia Motty nabbed gold in Division 12.

The Humber Valley Speed Skating Club sent 17 skaters to the event, which marks the largest group of skaters the club has sent to a major event off the island in over a decade.

The following is a look at how the remainder of Humber Valley speed skaters performed in Charlottetown in the first meet of the season:

Thomas Park — (Division 2) — silver

Ella Tucker — (Division 7) — bronze

Riley Earle — (Division 13) — silver

Melissa O’Brien — (Masters Division) — silver

Juliette Colbourne — (Division 13) — bronze

Ashley Higgins — (Division 2) — 4th place

Sarah Graham — (Division 2) — 8th place

Christina Karn — (Division 8) — 6th place

Noah Bolton —- (Division 8) — 7th place

Nicholas Higgins — (Division 8) — 5th place

Derek Attwood — (Division 11) — 7th place

Gavin Maidment — (Division 13) — 9th place

Ashly Motty — (Division 13) — 4th place

Thomas James — (Division 12) — 4th place

Rosemary Karn — (Division 7) — 5th place
