Humber Volleyball claims gold at Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association 16U Female and 17U Male volleyball provincial championships

Humber Volleyball of Western Newfoundland defeated the Gonzaga Vikings of St. John’s on Saturday to earn gold in the 17U Male Tier 1 division of the Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association’s 16U Female and 17U Male volleyball provincial championships.

The tournament, played on six courts at Grenfell Campus, Corner Brook Regional High and Corner Brook Intermediate. The tournament consisted of 19 female teams and 12 male teams, including over 350 athletes and coaches.

Humber Volleyball won the championship match 2-0 (30-28, 25-18).

Eastern Impact beat Gander Collegiate 2-1 (14-25, 25-16, 15-8) to pick up the bronze.

Ian Taylor of Humber was named Tier 1 MVP, while teammates Chris Leroy and Kyle Dimmer were named to the tournament all-star team.

In the 16U Female Tier 2 division, ICFT downed Corner Brook Intermediate Silver 2-0 (25-21, 25-13) in the championship match.

Sara Cook of Corner Brook Intermediate was named most spirited player, with teammates Emma White and Danielle Keeping made the all-star team.

Grandy’s River beat the Saints 2-1 (25-18, 23-25, 15-10) to earn bronze.

In the 16U Female Tier 1 division, Leo Burke Academy snagged gold with a 2-0 (20-25, 23-25) win over Gander Collegiate.

Exploits Force of Corner Brook beat Corner Brook Intermediate Storm Black 2-1 (25-10, 17-25, 12-15) for bronze.

Katie Faulkner of Exploits Force and Allison Grabka of Corner Brook Intermediate both wound up on the all-star team.

In the 17U Male Tier 2 division, Grandy’s River downed the MSB Wildcats 2-1 (25-19, 18-25, 9-15) for gold.

Corner Brook Intermediate Storm won bronze 2-0 (19-25, 17-25) over Jane Collins Academy.

Mitchell French of Corner Brook Intermediate was named to the all-star team.
