Massey Drive’s Mike Russell placed fifth out of 90 entrants over the weekend at the 50-kilometre East Coast Trail Ultra Marathon in St. John’s.
One of four west coast participants, Russell completed the trek, which began in Pouch Cove at sunrise and ended at sunset in Quidi Vidi, in a time of 5:30:36.
The victor, Jefferey Lockyer, crossed the line in 5:01:40. The top female was Caroline McIlroy, who finished at 6:04:19.
Corner Brook’s Jonathan Grandy placed 70th with a time of 9:01:20.
Erica Summers, of Corner Brook finished in 9:10:05, good enough for 16th among women and 73rd overall.
Eileen O’Brien, also of Corner Brook, was the last participant to actually finish the race, clocking in at 10:15:55 for 84th overall and 18th among women.
Six entrants were unable to finish the race.
