A tiny school has managed to accomplish something big.
Pasadena Elementary won its first-ever provincial championship by winning gold at the 2018 West Coast Provincial Grade 6 Boys Basketball Tournament in Corner Brook over the weekend.
The Pasadena squad edged Corner Brook’s Eastside Elementary 57-44 in the gold-medal game at J. J. Curling Elementary gymnasium with Jack Ryland leading the offensive charge with a 16-point performance.
Liam Keefe, a steady offensive producer for the champions throughout the tournament, supported the cause with 13 points.
Josh Garnier threw in 11 points for the victors, while benchmate Daniel Earle added seven points to the mix.
Eastside Elementary dumped Pasadena Elementary 60-30 in round-robin play for the only blemish on the record of the champions.
Pasadena defeated C. C. Loughlin 56-28 and shaded Sprucewood Academy No. 2 by a 32-22 spread to finish with a 2-1 round-robin record.
Pasadena earned a berth in the final by virtue of a 56-37 victory over Sprucewood Academy No. 1 in one of two semifinal matchups with Keefe leading the way with 28 points.
