Nick Gosse scored a team-high 14 points for the Waterford Valley High Warriors on Saturday as the claimed the Tier 1 championship of the 42nd Elwood Invitational boys basketball tournament in Deer Lake on Saturday.
The Warriors downed the Templeton Academy Tigers 68-51.
The Tigers were led by Kris Loder’s 14 points, 13 from Noah Park, and a 10-point output from James Combden.
The Warriors beat Prince of Wales Collegiate 83-59 in the semifinal round to make the final, with Chris Druken draining 21 points in the win.
Cody Stanford, Julian Edwards and Ryan Tayler scored 11 points each.
In the other semifinal, Templeton downed the host Elwood High Lakers 58-46.
Combden prodced 15 points for the victors, with Loder racking up 13 and Kurtis White scored 10.
Kyle Pinksen’s 15 led the charge for the Lakers, while Jordan Spracklin managed 11.
In the Tier 2 championship, Lewisporte beat up on Xavier Junior High 80-39.
Ian Wellon sccored 30 in the win, with Aaron Wellon chiming in with 14.
Gavin Curtis was the leader for the losing side, scoring 15 points.
