West coast rinks shut out at U18 curling provincials

There were no golden moments for any of the west coast rinks at the 2019 U18 junior curling provincial championships over the weekend in Corner Brook.

The rink that came closest, Team Butler of the Caribou Curling Club in Stephenville, were ousted 7-6 in a tiebreaker to advance to the semifinal round.

Team Butler consists of John William Butler, Jacob Hatcher, Cole Hulan, and Andrew Roberts. They wound up with a 3-3 record overall.

Team Sacrey of Stephenville (Jonathan Sacrey, Aiden Ouaida-Foley, Micah Sacrey, Sean Vermaak and James Lewis) finished up at 1-5, as did Corner Brook Curling Club’s Team O’Neill (Daniel O’Neill, Nicholas Baldwin, Ethan Mercer, Eric Hoyles, and Ethan Mulley).

Gander’s Team Krats downed Team Young of St. John’s 7-5 in the final.

The following are scores from weekend action on the men’s side: Team Butler 14, Team Pryor 6; Team Young 5, Team Krats 4; Team Krats 10, Team Sacrey 4; Team Pryor 7, Team Smith 6; Team Young 10, Team Pryor 3; Team Butler 8, Team O’Neill 6; Team Smith 7, Team O’Neill 5; Team Pryor 9, Team Sacrey 7; Team Smith 7, Team Butler 6; and Team Krats 6, Team Smith 4.

On the women’s side, Team Goulding of Stephenville (Rebecca Goulding, Sarah Cassell, Emma Butler and Martha Snelgrove) and Corner Brook’s Team Mitchell (Mackenzie Mitchell, Sarah McNeil Lamswood, Mikayla O’Reilly, and Ainsleigh Piercey) both wound up with 2-2 records, while Stephenville’s Team Savoury (Jacqueline Savoury, Samantha Cassell, Olivia Ayre, Beth Stokes and Kate Stokes) went 0-4.

In a battle between two St. John’s-based rinks, Team Follett defeated Team Neary 6-5 in the final.

The following are scores from weekend action on the women’s side: Team Neary 11, Team Savoury 3; Team Follett 8, Team Goulding 3; Team Follett 6, Team Savoury 4; Team Goulding 8, Team Mitchell 7; Team Foleltt 6, Team Neary 5; and Team Mitchell 13, Team Savoury 4.
