Penney powers Bees to win over Rangers in Corner Brook women's softball

Ashley Penney was crushing the ball on Tuesday night as she racked up five RBIs in a 4-for-4 performance at the plate to lead the Rapid Power Bees to a 14-12 win over the KSAB Rangers.

Penney also scored four runs and stole three bases in the Corner Brook Molson Ladies Fastpitch Softball win at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field.

Lorna Lovell was also 4-for-4 in the triumph, scoring three times and driving in a run. Nikita Nippard was 3-for-4 and scored a run. Both women also stole a base each. Kayla Brake chipped in with two RBIs and a run scored in a 2-for-4 evening.

Megan Payne’s 2-for-3 evening with two runs scored led the way for the Rangers. Lori Patey, Amber White and Karen Bolger all went 2-for-4. Patey and White both scored two runs apiece, while Bolger scored once.

Lorna Lovell pitched the opening two innings in the win, allowing three hits and six walks, while striking out two. Nicole Wells chucked the remaining five innings, walking 10 batters, striking out five and giving up six hits.

Donna Clarke pitched the majority of the game for the Rangers, with Brianna Kendell stepping in for the second inning only. Clarke gave up 17 hits and a walk, with seven strikeouts. Kendell was hit three times in her inning of work.
