CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Two members of the UPEI Panthers women’s rugby team were named Atlantic University Sport all-stars on Thursday.

Frances MacWilliam, a fourth-year player from Alberton, was one of the two front row/prop players named to the all-conference team while Mackenzie Hale, a rookie from Halifax, was one of the two wingers on the 15-player squad. It was dominated by the conference’s top two teams with Acadia having six on the squad and St. FX five.

Acadia’s Monique Coffey was named the MVP while her teammate Sarah Palfy was named the rookie of the year. St. FX’s Mike Cavanagh took home the coach of the year honours while Saint Mary’s Maggie MacPhee of Riverview, N.B., earned the student-athlete community service award.

The first-place St. FX X-Women host Acadia Saturday at 2 p.m. in the conference final. Both teams have qualified for nationals in Ottawa.
