It was a gold-medal performance for Stephenville High School over the weekend at the School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador 4A Girls Varsity Slo-Pitch Softball Championship at Gonzaga High in St. John’s.
The championship game was a chance for redemption for Stephenville, as they earned a 13-10 win over Roncalli.
In the tournament opener, Roncalli had blasted Stephenville 20-10.
Stephenville punched their ticket to the final with a 13-9 triumph against Laval in one semifinal, while Roncalli made it by beating Queen Elizabeth High 11-1 in the other.
In other round-robin games, Stephenville defeated Waterford Valley High 13-5 and downed Gonzaga 15-9.
St. James Regional High of Port aux Basques failed to make the semifinal after posting an 0-3 record in the round robin.
They were downed 13-3 by Laval High, 20-11 against Exploits Valley High, and lost to Queen Elizabeth High, however a final score of that game wasn’t available at press time.
Results from the 3A girls slo-pitch championship were also not available at press time.
