Owners of the Gateway to the North trailer park on Old Bonne Bay Road hope to see some expansion over the next couple of years.

Speaking from his winter home in Florida, longtime Gateway owner Gerard Beaulieu said he is currently awaiting permission from the Town of Deer Lake to go forward with the action that could bring up to an extra 10 spots in the park, which currently has the facilities to host 72 trailers and RVs.

But he said, that’s the easy part compared to what follows.

“If we do get that permission from the town, then we have to go to the Environment Department, Transportation, and a lot of other departments, it’s certainly not just the town,” he said. “The last time we expanded it took (up to three years) to get it done, and it’s understandable.”

Beaulieu said he is not bitter about the process, adding that each department needs to make sure everything is on the “up and up.”

He added that an expanding trailer park is a good indicator for the area, and that the average family spends about $150 per day while staying at the park
