Says no injuries related to defects

Toyota is recalling 430,500 vehicles for three separate safety problems, including 82,381 Sienna minivans in Canada that face potential problems caused by salt used by road crews to melt snow or ice in some areas.

The company said Thursday that the road salt can corrode the spare tire carrier under the vehicle and in extreme cases the tire can fall off.

The recall includes Siennas from the 2004 through 2010 model years.

Toyota Canada said some of the vehicles were involved in a recall issued in April 2010.

“The recall remedy included the addition of a water splash protector and an anti-rust agent application to reduce the effects of corrosion. If the splash protector is misplaced or falls from the vehicle on these 2004-2010 model year vehicles, the spare tire carrier assembly cable may not have sufficient anti-rust protection even after the anti-rust agent application that was part of the recall remedy,” Toyota Canada said in a statement from Toronto.

Toyota said it’s not aware of any accidents, injuries or deaths related to the recalls announced Thursday.

4,000 2014 Highlander and Higlander hybrids recalled in Canada

Toyota is also recalling 50,000 Highlander and Highlander hybrid SUVs from the 2014 model year, including 4,000 in Canada, because the car may not properly calculate the size of the front passenger when determining whether to fire the air bag.

And it’s recalling 10,500 Lexus GS 350 sedans from the 2013 model year, including 465 in Canada, because the brakes could activate without warning.

Toyota says there have been no accidents or injuries connected to the defects. Dealers will repair the vehicles for free.
