It has been two busy weeks at Sacred Heart with non-stop work.

Monday was Literacy Day.  Mr. Humber enjoyed reading “My school is a Zoo” to all Sacred Heart students. He really liked our responses to the related writing prompt “I went home from school and my house was a zoo!”

Guest speakers also came to the school to read to classes and give presentations.

And speaking of Literacy Day, many students came to school Monday dressed as their favourite literacy character, such as Pinocchio, Doc McStuffins, Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Junie B. Jones, Clawdeen Wolf from Monster High and many others. Students also filled in literacy passports with fun activities at home.

Ms. Grandy’s class started writing the Special of the Week. Each week a student is featured.

They show and share what they feel makes them special. Then they brainstorm and jot down notes about it.

Everyone writes their own page for the Special of the Week book. They also wrote a demand piece guided by pictures about Gregory the groundhog and made groundhog predictions and groundhog puppets to take home. Will there be more snow?

The Grade 3s were busy with a full week of Chinese New Year activities. They wrote about what year they were born and the character traits of that year.

They did fortune cookie writing and made clay sculpture lanterns and puppets.

To top it all off, they had Chinese food for lunch on Friday. Lucky ducks.

Mme Willett’s Grade 6 Intensive core French class enjoyed the cultural aspect of their program last Friday.

They read a book in French on how to make crêpes and then they had crêpes as a delicious treat.

The Grade 6s finished their downhill skiing/snowboarding sessions at Marble Mountain on Monday. It was so much fun.

And in sports news, both our girls and boys basketball teams played in tournaments this past weekend. The boys played in the Tiny Titans tournament, and the girls played in the G.C. Rowe Grade 7 invitational.

Our Grade 5 girls hosted J.J. Curling last Wednesday. We wish good luck to both our girls and boys teams this weekend as they play in the RNC tournament.

And that’s all for this week.
