An RCMP officer was injured this morning in Natuashish after a police pursuit of a reported stolen truck.
According to the RCMP, officers were pursuing a vehicle on the airport and dock service roads on the perimeter of the community when a male driver, who they noted was sniffing gas, was travelling speeding reaching more than 100 kms an hour.
After about 15 minutes, the vehicle came to a stop while attempting to negotiate a turn. The RCMP members rushed the vehicle and both windows in the vehicle were broken to gain access.
Subsequently, police said, the 21 year-old operator was removed from the vehicle, despite resisting arrest.
The arresting officer had particles of glass enter his eye and was taken to a local clinic for treatment.
The RCMP said no permanent injury is anticipated.
The suspect is being held pending a bail hearing. The RCMP said he was recently released by a judge for various criminal offences, including assaulting a police officer.
