CORNER BROOK  A tip from a citizen resulted in an impaired driving charge for a city man early today.

At 12:30 a.m. a citizen contacted the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary to report a possible impaired driver in the area of Beothuck Crescent. The driver had struck a parked vehicle in the area which alerted the citizen, who then called the police.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to the driver, a 67-year-old man from Corner Brook. The man was detained and brought to the RNC headquarters where a breathalyzer test was administered.

The man was then charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and was released to appear in court at a later date.

Why doesn't the RNC simply release the local statisitcs on drunk driving to the public? Because it would cause an outright panic. There are so many drunks behind the wheel you have an incredibly high, unacceptably high, odds of actually being hit or killed. And letting you know that doesn't do the government any good at all....they don't want to spend more money adding police, and they make tons of money from selling the booze. Welcome tourists!
