Three Labrador snowmobilers who were reported overdue Thursday returned home to Hopedale early this morning after taking shelter in a cabin overnight and waiting for the weather to clear.

RCMP in Hopedale were advised Thursday around 6:15 p.m. that the men had not returned from gathering wood in an area about 50 to 55 kms away from their homes.

They had left around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

The Hopedale Ground Search and Rescue Team was contacted and a search initiated.

The search was abandoned later in the evening due to poor ice conditions and deteriorating weather and was to continue again at first light today. But, according to the RCMP, the men returned home safely around 5:30 a.m. today.
