Western Newfoundland Filipino man urging people to donate to trusted groups

PASADENA  A well known Filipino-born Pasadena man has no family immediately impacted by the deadly typhoon which struck his native land last week.

Jorge Villanueva is still concerned about the condition of his home country, and its people, following the disaster that has reportedly affected more than nine million people. He is unaware of any official fundraising efforts or events being organized to assist those affected.

Given organizations such as the Canadian Red Cross is collecting donations, and he said the Filipino community through the provincial chapter in St John's is organizing efforts, he suggests people looking to contribute shold ensure they are donating to trusted groups.

    Are the three Filipino ladies soliciting business patrons around Corner Brook legit? I have been approached several times in the last couple of weeks by the same three who show a card and ask for money for people in the Philippines.
