CORNER BROOK  A 28-year-old man from Corner Brook is scheduled to appear in provincial court Saturday after he was arrested or allegedly assaulting a woman earlier in the morning.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to a disturbance involving a man and a woman at a residence on O’Connell Drive at around 1:10 a.m., but the man had left the area by the time police arrived.

The 34-year-old woman, who is also from Corner Brook, had injuries resulting from the alleged incident which were not life-threatening and was conveyed to Western Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment.

The man was located by police nearby and has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and with breaching conditions of three court orders he was subject to at the time of the incident.

He was held in police custody until a court appearance can be arranged Saturday.

The RNC said both persons involved knew each other and alcohol was a factor in the incident.
