First carnival button sold to Mayor Charles Pender.

Buttons for the 43rd Corner Brook Winter Carnival go on sale Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at various locations around city. Mayor Charles Pender, left, was sold the first button Monday at city hall by carnival chairperson Anne Marie Coleman and Darryl Gardner, chair of the button fundraiser. This years button also commemerates the 10th anniversary of the Leifling contest. Carnival runs runs Feb. 21- March 2, with the official carnival holiday being Feb. 24.

    If you ever needed proof as to how backwards CB town hall is then this is it. The Mensa group that runs the town thought having the civic holiday in the middle of winter was better than having it in the summer.
