Clarence Cantwell, 22, of Corner Brook is considering running for the leader of the provincial Progressive Conservative Party.

Clarence Cantwell will run for the Conservative leadership.

It's been said many times that a person ought to put their money where their mouth is. Well, that is just what the 22-year-old Corner Brook manis doing.

"If I see another candidate that I thought would do as good a job or better than myself ... " Cantwell previously told The Western Star. "As of now, I don't see that."

This morning, he said, somebody has to challenge Corner Brook entrepreneur and fisheries powerhouse Bill Barry for the race.

Corner Brook businessman Frank Coleman has said he is considering entering the race.

Other than opposing the privatizing of Nalcor, Cantwell said he would like to see more affordable housing and an increased minimum wage.

Working two full-time jobs in Corner Brook - one as an overnight manager for Ultramar Canada and the other in business - Cantwell considers himself a hardworking man.

He said he would be a representative of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

"I am out there to actually do something for the people," Cantwell said. "I care about the people - the common person, like myself."

Organizations: Ultramar Canada

@ Justin, please explain to the people why this should not happen.. Give this young man a chance, before passing judgement, he can't be any worst, then what we have now.

Mr Cantwell, let look at some of our past leader, we had a cable guy, social worker, desk jockey,, Red arm got a pill pusher as leader, Orange party has no leader. In other words we are in poor shape. Mr Barry points out to the people what's wrong with our government, When ask what is solution, Mr Barry answer, elects me and I'LL tell you, The man sound more like Mr Ball. We the people need some one with fresh ideas, not just to fill a seat.. and you could be that person.

If you need campaign money to compete against the 1 percent. You should carefully craft a kickstarter campaign because if anything is needed in newfoundland politics it's a shake up in the people running. I acctually identify with you. I work 2 jobs just to make it work here in Newfoundland and it's getting harder every year. Ide like to come out ahead 4 years after the provincial leadership election. You would have my contribution if you decided to accept them this way.
