Police investigating cab fraud complaint

The Bay St. George RCMP are investigating a report of fraud by a taxi passenger in Stephenville.

The driver phoned the police at 4:43 a.m. Thursday saying he had picked up a man who was in his early to mid-30s, at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook.

He alleges that on arrival in Stephenville the man ran from the cab, skipping out on his $90 fare.

 

St. George’s man charged with impaired driving

The Bay St. George RCMP arrested a 28-year-old St. George’s man following a traffic stop on Main Street in Stephenville early Thursday morning.

Police say a complaint was received at 5 a.m. that two males, who appeared to be intoxicated, were leaving Ultramar in Stephenville driving a sport utility vehicle.

Police located the vehicle and arrested the male driver for impaired driving after he allegedly recorded a reading above the legal limit on the breathalyzer.

The accused will appear in provin
