A possible sighting of missing Port au Port West man Glenn MacEachren was refuted Thursday evening by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Stephenville.

The 49-year-old was last seen on April 4 and was reported missing to police on Wednesday.

Cpl. John Butler said police were informed MacEachren was seen hitchhiking in the Stephenville area on Saturday, was picked up and later dropped off at a convenience store.

Without identifying the store, Butler said an officer was tasked with checking the video surveillance to confirm whether MacEachren can be seen on it.

When contacted Thursday evening, Cpl. Chris Dawe said after checking video and speaking with store employees, they don’t believe the man in question in the video was MacEachren.

“We don’t have any further information that can lead us in any other direction at this time,” said Dawe.

MacEachren is described as approximately five feet, eight inches in height, and around 200 pounds with short brown hair and a brown moustache.
