2014 Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Drama Festival award winners

Bay Theatre of Stephenville and the Off-Broadway Players of Corner Brook collected eight awards at the 2014 Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Drama Festival on Saturday, April 26, 2014 in Stephenville. Recipients include: (front) Diane Morris of Bay Theatre, true spirit of the festival award and shared award for costume that most enhances interpretation of overall production; (back) from left, Jim Parsons of Off-Broadway Players, best performance by a man and innovative set design; Kylie Cook of Bay Theatre, sharing of costume that most enhances interpretation of overall production; Neil Robbins of Off-Broadway Players for excellence in lighting design; Jordan Stringer, director of Off-Broadway Players' "Blasted" who accepted best visual presentation and best presentation of a full-length play and Troy Turner, of Off-Broadway players for imagination and excellence in sound.

D.A. Matthews Scholarship ($1,000)

Awarded at the discretion of the adjudicator to a person 21 years of age or under, by application, for a summer course at a recognized drama school.

Matthew Feener - lighting design, tech. – “Giovanni’s Women” - School Zone Productions

Transcontinental Media NL Newspapers/Western Star Scholarship ($500)

Awarded to a first-time festival participant to recognize their talent, commitment and contribution and is intended to help defray costs incurred in taking theatre training as approved by the society executive. Wanda Moore – stage Manager - “The Laramie Project” - Avion Players

The Walter C. Chambers Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)

Awarded at the discretion of the adjudicator to help defray costs incurred in a one-year course in the performing arts at a degree-granting institution. This scholarship is under application.

Jacob S. Bradbury – soldier – “Blasted” – Off Broadway Players

The Thompson Trophy for best actor or actress in any role under the age of 21 years.

Heather Phillipps – Amy – “Giovanni’s Women” – School Zone Productions

The Chairman’s Award for best supporting performance by a woman.

Michele Dove – “The Laramie Project” – Avion Players

The Reg Harte Memorial Award for best supporting performance by a man.

Shawn Tiller – “The Laramie Project” – Avion Players

The OZ-FM Award for imagination and excellence in sound.

Troy Turner – “Blasted” – Off Broadway Players

The Hans Tode Memorial Trophy for innovative set design.

Jim Parsons – “Blasted” – Off Broadway Players

The Harvey Rose Bowl Best visual presentation. Donated by the late Reginald Harvey.

“Blasted” – Off Broadway Players

The Allen R. Hillier Award for costume that most enhances interpretation of overall production.

Diane Morris and Kylie Cook – “Jenny’s House of Joy” – Bay Theatre

The Elizabeth F. Ireland Award for the acquisition of the most effective and/or innovative properties.

Brandie Crant – “Everybody Loves Opal” – Carol Players

The Chrissi Andrews Memorial Award Best performance by a woman.

Ruth Simmons – Annette – “God of Carnage” – Northern Lights

The Honourary Chairman’s Award for best performance by a man.

Jim Parsons – Ian – “Blasted” – Off Broadway Players

The Allen Power Memorial Trophy for excellence in lighting design.

Neil Robbins – “Blasted – Off Broadway Players

Stage Managers Award For excellence in stage manage ment as recommended by the technicians of the Stephenville Arts and Culture Centre.

Deanna Skinner-King – “Giovanni’s Women” - School Zone Productions

The Neala F. Griffin Trophy for best direction.

Craig Robinson – “God of Carnage” – Northern Lights

The Newfoundland Herald Audience Appreciation Award

“God of Carnage” - Northern Lights

The Margaret Doyle Trophy for true spirit of the festival.

Diane Morris – Bay Theatre

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Drama Festival Award for best presentation of a full-length play.

“Blasted” – Off Broadway Players
