The City of Corner will be giving some money back to residents and businesses who paid a deposit under its landscaping standards.

The city implemented changes to its landscaping standards in February. The standards were developed to beautify the city and to reduce drainage and erosion control issues for neighbouring property owners.

One of the main changes was in regards to the security deposits taken for new residential and new commercial properties. New residential properties are not required to submit a landscape deposit and new commercial properties have to submit a deposit of $4 per square metre to a maximum of $5,000.

The decision to refund deposits to property owners who are not in violation of the current standards was made during Monday’s public council meeting.

All residential landscaping deposits will to returned to properties that are within one year of occupancy permit or have not received an occupancy permit. Commercial deposits will also be returned to properties that meet the same criteria, however, $5,000 shall be retained as per the current commercial standard for deposits.
