A 50-year-old Stephenville Crossing man is going to court on Sept. 15 after he was arrested for theft when was observed by a member of the public stealing items from Wal-Mart in the Stephenville Plaza.
Cpl. John Butler said the Bay St. George RCMP received a report on Thursday at 6:50 p.m. from a witness who said the man had come out of the store several times and put items that were not bagged in his vehicle.
The witness followed the man to his residence in Stephenville Crossing and reported the incident to the police, along with the plate number of the vehicle the man was driving.
When police members attended the man’s home, an arrest was made and an estimated $400 to $500 worth of merchandise from the store was recovered. He was later released for the future court date.
Butler said included in that was 97 pieces of fishing equipment, from lures to lines to hooks; along with 34 other items that included razor blades, car scents and body wash.
