Following the lead of provincial legislation, Corner Brook’s fire department has placed a ban on all open fires within the city until further notice.

In a prepared release, the city says the ban includes outdoor fires and unauthorized burning including: campfires, brush burning and fireworks. Gas barbecues are excluded from the ban.

The Department of Natural Resources also banned outdoor fires in and around forested areas throughout Newfoundland on Monday.

Recent hot and dry weather has raised the forest fires index to “extreme levels” in many parts of the province.

Just another case of legal redundancy no thanks to the City of Corner Brook. Once the province bans open fires, there's no point in cities like Corner Brook implementing it. As for the general public, let it be a lesson never to trust "The Weather Network" and their seasonal forecasts as they originally stated that Newfoundland would have a seasonal summer, but now the opposite is happening as we are getting warm and dry weather. If this dry and hot weather doesn't stop, then our weather is just like the lottery, rigged. Besides, if the weather wasn't rigged, Newfoundland would not experience a month of daytime temperatures above 25 degrees.
