A man was treated for minor injuries following an explosion aboard a small fishing boat in the Bay of Islands Saturday morning.

The Corner Brook detachment of the RCMP is still investigating what caused the explosion, which occurred while the boat was just off Wood’s Island.

The man, who was believed to be fishing at the time of the incident, was the only person in the boat.

The RCMP was notified by the Canadian Coast Guard and both of those entities were joined by the Humber Arm South volunteer fire department in rescuing the injured man. The resident of Benoit’s Cove in Humber Arm South was taken to Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook for treatment and was later released.

The RCMP would not discuss the nature of the man’s injuries, only saying they were minor in nature.

Fishing from your boat does not make your boat a "fishing boat". This was a pleasure craft.

This was my father and it was not a "pleasure craft". Learn the facts before stating things you don't know
