DEER LAKE A police spokesman said he was pleasantly surprised that there were no accidents after a wind storm overnight Tuesday left the Trans-Canada Highway an icy mess.
Cpl. Steven O’Blenis said there were no reports of any accidents Wednesday, leaving him hopeful that drivers may be getting the message about road safety.
“I’d hope they would stay home if it’s that bad out there, as well as slow down if they do go out,” he said. “I expected to see something from the highway approaching the Howley or Hampden exits but we haven’t seen any reports.”
Deer Lake’s public works department reported no issues Wednesday morning, and said they had dispatched salt trucks. The Deer Lake Regional Airport experienced two flight delays but overall no issues.
