One city resident says it was convenient to have dumpsters in the Pepsi Centre parking lot during the Christmas break.
“I made plenty of use of the service while the garbage pickup schedule was thrown off during the holidays.
“I was happy to see the big yellow containers ... but the gulls and crows were even more excited.
“They were dragging bags all over the place and digging the goodies out of them as fast as they could.
“Workers were there at least one day trying to clean up but there will be more work to do when the snow melts,” he said.
“Let’s hope that flaw in the system doesn’t cause anyone at city hall to change their mind about the dumpsters next Christmas.”
Some city residents continue to throw snow from their driveways into the street.
No doubt it’s easier than throwing the mountains of stuff in a safe area, but that’s no excuse.
There is a bylaw against the practice for good reason.
A Corner Brook senior phoned recently in the middle of another snow dump to complain about the snowclearing in the parking lot of her seniors apartment building.
“They only make one cut straight into the parking lot. They say the cars are in the way but they must be able to inform the tenants when they are coming so they can move their vehicles.
“I’m worried about getting an ambulance in here if there is an emergency,” she said.
