Female athletes looking to be inspired to be the best they can be are invited to the Fast and Female Ski Nationals Champ Camp Friday in Corner Brook.
Female cross-country skiers of all skill levels, as well as female athletes from other sports in the 9-19 age group, are encouraged to attend the event, which is scheduled for Friday 2-4 p.m. at Grenfell Campus of Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Heidi Widmer, 2014 cross-country skiing Olympian, athletes from the National Development Centres and some of the top college racers who participated in the Under-23 World Championships will be hosting the Champ Camp.
Fast and Female is a not-for-profit society started in 2005 by Chandra Crawford, the 2006 Olympic gold medalist in cross-country skiing for Team Canada on the women’s side. The organization’s mission is to support, motivate, inspire and empower girls to stick to sports and the healthy lifestyle.
Organizers hope participants in Friday’s event, being held in conjunction with the staging of the 2014 Haywood Ski Nationals at Blow Me Down Trails in Corner Brook this week, will go on to be leaders in their communities as athletes, coaches or volunteers.
The event promises an afternoon of athletic inspiration with a motivational talk and yoga hosted by Fast and Female ambassadors and Olympian Widmer.
