A couple of crowns still up for grabs today, but two champions have been declared at the showcase of the city’s young tennis players.

Sidney Joyce was at the top of her game Tuesday with an 8-0 win over Clare Coleman giving her the Under-10 girls singles crown at Wellington tennis courts.

The other main event on Day 2 of the Corner Brook Junior Open tennis tournament saw Andrew George a happy camper as he claimed the singles title in the U10 boys division.

George won the title with a convincing 8-2 triumph over Colin Spencer.

Joyce also had success in doubles play with Avery Gardner as the duo defeated Emma White and Erin Hulan 8-1, 8-1 in the only matchup in the U12 doubles bracket.

Helena McCarthy and Jenna Specker had solid efforts in the U14 female singles division with both getting wins on the board.

McCarthy defeated Emma White 8-0, while Specker eked out an 8-7 win over Erin Way.

The remainder of the titles not claimed will be decided today with action getting underway at 9 a.m. at the Wellington tennis facility.
