Barter perfect for black and gold in the softball diamond

Sandy Barter drove in five runs in a perfect 5-for-5 performance to get the black and gold a victory on the softball diamond.

Winning pitcher Selma Pike, who tossed a complete game at the Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field, went 4-for-5 as the West Side Monarchs eked out a 20-17 decision over Whelan’s Gate.

Jessica Humber went 4-for-5 with four runs and Cheyanne Biggin went 3-for-5 for the winners in the Corner Brook Molson Ladies Softball League matchup Wednesday night.

Kathy Lukeman was the top hitter for the opposing bench going 6-for-6 with four runs scored in a game where the black and gold pushed five runs across in both the second and fourth innings.

Angela Martyn and Niki Warford collected six hits apiece in a losing cause, while Cassaundra Park had a strong game on the offensive side with six hits in as many tries.

The regular season will wrap up Sunday with Whelan’s Gate tangling with the KSAB Rangers at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field.
