Warford offensive star for Junior Barons in season opener

CORNER BROOK  Jay Warford delivered a two-run triple and scored on three occasions to lead the Supplement Shack Junior Barons to a 9-7 win over the Veitch Physiotherapy Aces Sunday night.

Warford finished the Corner Brook Senior Baseball League tilt going 1-for-3 with a brace of walks at Jubilee Field.

Colton Kennedy shared the spotlight for the winners going 1-for-3 with a walk and drove in two runs in the second game of the doubleheader that opened the 2014 season.

Grant Vincent was the top hitter for the Aces going 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Mark Lombard finished the night 1-for-2 with two walks and drove in a run in a losing cause despite pushing five runs across in the home half of the first inning.

Kevin Farrell picked up the pitching win over Alvin Lafitte.

League action resumes Tuesday with the Junior Barons tangling with the Curling Marlins 7 p.m. at Jubilee Field.
