The Veitch’s Ultramar Hawks scored runs in each of the first four innings Monday night at Jubilee Field en route to a 7-0 Corner Brook Molson Senior Baseball League victory over the Veitch Physiotherapy Aces.
Fred Prosper and Mike Brake were both integral to the offence in the win, with Prosper recording two RBIs and a run scored in a 2-for-3 night at the plate. He also had two stolen bases. Brake was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.
Steve Hynes led the Aces with three hits in as many trips to the plate, while Jordan Kennedy was 2-for-3.
Cory Lockyer earned the pitching win, scattering seven hits through seven innings, with no walks and three strikeouts.
Hynes came away with the loss, giving up seven runs — six earned — on 11 hits with three walks through his seven innings of duty. He struck out five.
Prosper scored the game’s opening run in the top of the first, cashing in on a ground out from Brake.
A prosper double in the second inning brought Jonathan Clarke and Mike Simms home for a 3-0 advantage.
Simms doubled in the third to score Brake, before a double from Brad Penney brought in Simms and Darren Colbourne.
Perry Alexander crossed the plate in the fourth on a single from Brake to make it a 7-0 ball game.
In the late game on Sunday night, the Hawks outlasted the West Side Monarchs 5-3.
Frank Humber threw the victory, striking out 10 batters through seven innings. He gave up two earned runs on nine hits.
Adam Warren was the losing pitcher, lasting three innings and giving up four runs on six hits.
Chris Gaudon and Prosper were the top hitters for the victors, both going 2-for-3. Gaudon had an RBI, while Prosper scored twice.
Aaron Flood scored three times in a 3-for-4 night in the loss, while Michael Tavenor was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
