Grant Vincent helps Mariners earn split on road trip

CORNER BROOK — Nick Tucker, Grant Vincent and Steve Hobbs scored two goals apiece to lead the Port aux Basques Mariners to an 8-5 victory over the Bishop’s Falls Express Sunday afternoon.

The victory enabled the Mariners to earn a split on the weekend road trip after the hometown Express eked out a 6-5 win over the visitors Saturday night at the Pat O’Reilly Memorial Stadium.

Garrett Thistle and Josh Skinner also scored for the Mariners in Sunday’s triumph.Travis Champion was the offensive star for the Express with a two-goal performance.

Travis Thompson, Marshall Gillard and Jared King also lit the lamp for the Express in a losing cause.

One night earlier, Champion had a two-goal outing to lead the charge for the Express in a 6-5 victory.

Marshall Gillard, Travis Budgell, Marshall Gillard and Stephen Brent also scored for the victors.

Grant Vincent had another two-goal game for the Mariners, while single markers were added to the scoresheet by Josh Skinner, Nick Tucker and Steve Hobbs.

League action resumes this weekend when the Express host the Stephenville Junior Jets for a two-game series at the Pat O’Reilly Memorial Stadium in Bishop’s Falls.
