Gould gets Lakers back even with Panthers

ROCKY HARBOUR  Derian Gould scored two goals to lead the Elwood High Lakers to a 4-2 win over the Gros Morne Academy Panthers Monday night in Rocky Harbour.

Josh Oake and Tyler Hunt also scored for the Lakers, who evened the West Coast High Hockey League best-of-three semifinal series at one game apiece at the Gros Morne Arena.

Nathan Ellsworth and Tyler Hunt replied for the Rocky Harbour boys.

Tristan Moss was the winning puckstopper, while the loss was pinned on Jonah Reid.

Meanwhile, the Stephenville Spartans drew first blood in the other semifinal series with a 3-1 victory over the Corner Brook Regional High Titans at the Kinsmen Arena II.

Trevor Snow had a two-goal game for the Spartans, while Devon Ryan had the other goal for the winners.

Daniel Whitten was the lone marksman for the Titans, breaking Jordi Green’s shutout bid at 4:30 of the middle stanza on a setup from Ryan Gillam and Nick O’Connell.

The Titans clash with the Spartans in Game 2 Wednesday 5:30 p.m. at the Stephenville Dome.
