Jillian Wells and Claudette Sheppard had two hits apiece to lead Rapid Power Sports to a 7-2 win over the KSAB Rangers in provincial women’s softball championship play Friday.
Kayla Brake went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the winners at Fred Basha Memorial Park.
Donna Clarke, losing pitcher in the contest in a duel with Tammy Kendell, went 1-for-3 with a double to lead the attack for the Rangers.
The Bees had the sting taken out of them, however, in a showdown against the Diamonds of St. John’s in a 10-3 setback in a game called after five innings due to the tournament mercy rule.
Sammi Kennedy tossed a nifty five-hitter to win the pitching matchup against Kendell who was tagged for 12 hits in four innings of work.
The only other round-robin game saw the Angels of St. John’s post a 10-3 win over Whelan’s Gate with Jenna Connolly tossing a three-hitter for the victors.
Wanda Wight scattered eight hits to take the loss for the Whelan’s Gate squad.
Michelle O’Reilly, Coolene Brake and Katie Evans all had 1-for-3 outings for the Corner Brook squad.
Tournament action continues today at 9:30 a.m. with the Rangers tangling with the Angels at Fred Basha Memorial Park.
