CORNER BROOK  Just when it looked like both Physical Rehab and the Bud Light Shamrocks were about to extend their respective seasons on Monday night — by a couple of overtime periods and a perhaps a shootout, at least — Jana Sigurdsson stepped up.

The rehab squad player beat Shamrocks goalkeeper Natasha Bellows in the 91st minute — a minute into injury time added on at the end of the game — to give her side the 2-1 lead. The whistle sounded shortly after that to make the victory official in the Corner Brook Women’s Soccer League playoff opener at Wellington Street Sports Complex.

Jay Gillis had the other goal for the winning team, while Jana Vokey earned the goalkeeping triumph.

Jenna McWhirter picked up the lone marker for the Shamrocks.

The West Coast Physio Under-18s and Island Orthotics Curling Rangers will play on Wednesday, with the winner advancing to the final. The loser of that game will play the rehab squad, with the other championship berth on the line.
