Lahey scores late winner as Rangers defeat Stephenville

Jill Lahey’s winning goal came at the last minute — literally.

The Island Orthotics Curling Rangers player scored in the 89th Wednesday night at the Stephenville High soccer pitch to give her team the 3-2 victory over Clancy’s FC.

Hannah Bradbury and Frankie Warren did the rest of the damage for the Rangers.

Kasandra Perrier and Abigail Penton provided the offence for the Stephenvile-based squad.

Warren’s goal came in the fifth minute and seemed to set the tone for a big night for the Rangers, but Penton tied it just two minutes later.

Bradbury scored in the 14th to put the Rangers back up by one.

Perrier’s goal came in the 23rd to even it again and set the stage for Lahey’s late heroics.

The following is a summary of the other league game on Wednesday night:

Under-18s 3, Health and Performance Shamrocks 0

Gabrielle Sarrazin booted home two goals as the Under-18s blanked the Shamrocks.

Carley Tanner also scored in the winning effort.

The Under-18s improved to 5-0-0 on the year, for first place, while the Rangers kept pace behind them, now sitting at 5-1-0. Veitch’s Physio is 2-3-0, while the Shamrocks are 2-4-0.

Clancy’s FC dropped to 1-2-0 on the year, ahead of the Shoppers West Hawks, who are stuck at 0-5-0.
