Monarchs strike twice late in shutout win over Rangers

 Two goals in the final eight minutes were enough to propel the West Side Monarchs over the Steers Insurance Curling Rangers on Wednesday night.

Chris Casey’s goal in the 82nd proved to be the winner, while Tyler Lavers added an insurance marker in the 87th in the Corner Brook Molson Senior Men’s Soccer League win at Wellington Street Sports Complex.

Steve Vardy earned the clean sheet for the Monarchs, with Zack Taylor taking the loss at the other end.

In other men’s soccer action on Wednesday night, the Health and Performance Hawks pulled off a second consecutive come-from-behind victory as they shocked the Sorrento Tactics FC at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Pitch.

Brandon Ezekiel scored in the 90th minute to tie the game, then Ryan Vaters buried the clincher in the second minute of injury time before the final whistle sounded.

Ballouk Hamza notched the Tactics lone goal in the 14th.

Nick Park was the winning goalkeeper over Evan Fequet.

The Hawks are now 9-2-3 on the year, with the Rangers behind them at 7-3-5.

The Monarchs are 6-5-3 on the year, while the Under-18s are 5-5-2.

Clancy’s sport a 1-3-0 record, while the Tactics fell to 0-10-3.
